SPECTERS OF THE PAST Final

By Arthur

Pokemon Tower, Lavender Town…

Ash and friends are wandering through the tower's spooky hallways. “It's even creepier in here than last time.” Worried Misty.

As the four were walking down the hallway, they heard a cracking sound. Ash looked down just in time to see the floor beneath

his feet give way. “Aahhh!!!” he shouted as he fell. The group looked over the edge to see him rubbing his back. “Owww…”

he complained. “Hey Ash!” shouted Brock, “Try to find some stairs or something and we'll meet up later.” “Got it.” Ash called

back through the hole.

The trio…

“I wonder if this is really the right way.” Wondered Misty. “Hey, have I ever gotten you lost before?” Brock asked, soon

realizing his mistake. “Yes.” Reminded Christine. Suddenly, the candles lighting the hallway went out. A dark figure appeared

in front of them. “Ash?” inquired Misty. The form stepped closer, revealing herself to be Megan. Her face was contorted with

pain and she was hovering a foot over the ground. “She's possessed!” realized Brock. Then, Megan started to glow.

“Whaaa?!?” exclaimed Christine as a form detached itself from Megan's body. “That's what happens to people who wander

into our tower!” laughed Gengar. Then, the Gengar transformed itself to look like Megan. “We're shape-shifting ghosts.”

Gengar explained. “Who's we?” asked Brock. “My fellow is taking care of your friend. Care to watch?” the Gengar said,

making a dark circle appear in mid air. Then, the circle lit up and showed Ash wandering down a hallway. “Ash!” screamed

Misty.

Ash's Test…

“I wonder where the stairs are.” Wondered Ash. He heard a creaking noise. He turned to see Mark running down the hallway

to his right. “Wait up!” Ash called after him. Ash ran after him. When Ash ran around the corner, he bumped into someone and

was knocked over. When Ash looked up, he saw he had run into Misty. “There you are.” Misty said, exasperated. “Are you

okay?” Ash asked, getting up. “I'm fine. You know, being alone in here is kind of romantic.” She said. Maybe this is the best

time to ask he thought. He took Misty's hand. “I need to ask you something.” He said. “What?” Misty asked. He took the

ring out of his pocket and held I up. “Will you…marry me?” he asked. Misty just stood there for a second. Suddenly, she

jerked her hand away. “Leave me alone, you jerk!” she shouted. She slapped him and ran off. Ash just stared after her.

“Misty…” he whispered. He kneeled down and pounded the floor with his fist. “Why does it have to end like this…” He was

crying quietly. Back with Misty and friends, Misty was staring at the image. A tear dripped down her cheek as she watched

Ash cry. “Ash…” she whispered back. Suddenly, the link broke down and Gengar stood there laughing. Misty's eyes flared

with anger. “Why?” she said. “Because of what he did to my ancestors last year!” the Gengar replied, reminding Misty of when

Ash had psychic powers. Then, the other Gengar faded into view. “You should've seen the look on his face! He was heartbroken!” laughed the other Gengar. Misty was crying tears of fury. “Golduck, go!” she said, releasing her Pokemon.

“Power up, Marowak!” called Christine. “Go Onix!” shouted Brock. The Pokemon stared at the two Gengar. Suddenly, Onix

leapt toward the first Gengar. Onix's attack didn't work because Gengar was a ghost. Then, Marowak did its Psychic attack.

He two ghosts howled in pain as they were caught off guard. “Golduck, use your Psychic Rage attack!” shouted Misty.

Golduck's eyes turned blue as it stared at the two unlucky Pokemon. “Duck!!!” screamed Golduck as its psychic energy tore a

hole splitting the tower in two. “Let's get out of here!” called Brock above the noise. “I'll find Ash!” Misty said as she ran off to

find Ash.

The bitter end…?

Ash looked around in wonder as the tower started to crumble. “There's no reason to run.” He told himself. Then, he thought he

heard a voice coming from farther down the hall. “Ash! Help!” Misty's voice was instantly recognized. “Hang on! I'm

coming!” shouted Ash as he ran down the hallway. He saw Misty lying on floor with her leg trapped underneath a pile of rubble.

Ash didn't say anything; he just picked up the debris, setting Misty free. “Go, before the tower collapses.” He said. “Come on

Ash! Let's go!” Misty screamed. Ash just stared at her with some of the saddest eyes she had ever seen. “That wasn't me

back there! It was a ghost!” she revealed. Ash looked puzzled. “C'mon!” she shouted, grabbing his arm and leading him

toward the door. Just as they got outside, the tower collapsed. When the dust settled, Ash and Misty looked toward the ruins.

“Brock…Christine…” Misty cried, remembering her friends. She leaned on Ash and cried on his shoulder. He held her close.

“It's okay.” He said, trying to sooth her. Then, a pile of rocks near the edge of the ruins exploded outward as an Onix lifted

Brock and Christine out of the disaster area. “There they are!” said Brock, pointing at Ash and Misty. Onix went over to them

and motioned for them to get on. The friends embraced in a group hug. “We thought you were dead.” Cried Misty. “We

thought YOU were dead.” Replied Christine. They stayed like that for a few seconds before letting go of each other. “Let's go

home.” Ash said, his voice with a new happiness.

The new beginning…

The group was divided into the two bedrooms at Ash's house. Ash and Misty were sitting together on his bed. “So Ash, you

had a question?” Misty asked. “Um, nevermind.” He responded. “C'mon.” she encouraged. “It really wasn't that important.”

He evaded. Then Misty leaned over and kissed Ash. “You can ask me.” Misty whispered. “I love you.” “Here goes.” Ash

said. Ash got down on one knee, and held her hand. “Misty, I love you with all my heart.” He confessed. Then he took out the

ring from his pocket and put it on her finger. “Will you marry me?” Misty was stunned. She knew that the question was

coming, but everything seemed so perfect. She kneeled down to meet his gaze. “Yes Ash, I will marry you.” Then they kissed

for what seemed an eternity. When Misty looked at Ash's face, his look was that of a man who had never been happier.

“Wanna tell Brock and Christine?” he smiled. “Yes!” she said. “Wow, you're on a roll with that 'yes' thing!” Ash commented.

They laughed and went outside. Misty hid her hand with the ring behind her back. Brock and Christine met them by the stairs.

“I've got something so cool to tell you!” Christine shrieked at Misty. “Me too!” Misty said excitedly. “You go first.” Prompted

Christine. “Look!” screamed Misty, motioning down to her engagement ring. “You too?!?” shouted Christine as she held out

her engagement ring. Ash and Brock looked at each other in surprise and exchanged high fives. The group went downstairs.

“What lovely rings you girls have.” Noticed Ash's mom. “We're getting married!” they revealed in unison, hugging their guys.

Ash's mom started to cry tears of joy. “I'm sorry, I always cry at weddings.” She apologized. “Mom, we're not married yet.”

Sighed Ash. “Then hurry up!” his mom joked. “Sooner or later, we'll get there.” Said Ash. “We'll get there.”
